We have the first germination of seeds in the tomato and chilli pots -- definitely not tomatoes or chillis! I'm guessing that the first-comers will probably be chickweed...

It is still very cold at night, and in fact I have been using my eiderdown, which I hadn't got out earlier in the winter. About 56F in here over the night, although in bed I was toasty warm ;-)

The Dreamwidth error reports on the 403 error situation have finally 'stuck', after a very weird period when they would all get deleted within a day of posting.

Apparently it is "a Cloudfront issue": https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/see_request?id=48647 (not to be confused with CloudFlare, which is what locks me out of fanfiction.net!)

I got out the mini-greenhouse, plus the piece of scrap slate that I use to weigh down the base of it, and sowed some more little pots of saved seed: an envelope labelled "yellow poppy 2021", in which year I apparently did succeed in ripening a couple of seedheads (I got no flowers from the yellow poppy pot at all last year, and there is currently no sign of the plant returning after dying down last winter), eight nasturtium seeds, and a scattering of poached-egg plant, although I think I also have one that germinated last year in a tomato pot and over-wintered). I also scattered some more of the 'seeds for birds', or at least of the buckwheat shells from the box, into the trough.

Unsurprisingly there is no sign of germination from any of the seeds I planted three days ago!

My clock ended up in the oven again yesterday -- I thought I'd successfully managed to have a quick shower a few days ago without any ill-effects, but when I got into the bath yesterday I realised that although the clock was ticking it was about six hours slow/fast (having presumably stopped again at some point), and while I was in there it stopped again, despite there being no detectable condensation either on the glass dial or the plastic parts behind when I took it down afterwards :-( I think it *must* be a moisture issue, because letting it dry out in the oven starts it up again, but I did think I'd managed to fix it....

And the new beta interface to the 'Post an Entry"/"Create Entries" page really doesn't lay out well on my computer... http://ivory.ueuo.com/Tower/Dreamwidth/screenshots.html (also, I've realized that I can't delete notifications from my inbox using the beta inbox page -- I'm assuming that is also non-fixable, so I shall have to clear them out en bloc periodically from elsewhere.)

For long posts I need to remember to prepare them as spearate files and then paste them into the letterbox slit, which I do already try to do for fear of a crash/errors when posting (but generally forget, as I tend not to set out to write long posts in the first place...)

Following on from yesterday's labours, I think I have now also completed the task of going through and adding the tags film-review and british-film to all the entries between July 2014 and December 2007.

NB one weird Dreamwidth feature I discovered -- far too late to be of any use! -- was that posts which are accessed by clicking on their titles have a "previous entry"/"next entry" link at the bottom only, which means an awful lot of scrolling when scanning through years' worth of posts in consecutive order.
Posts which were originally accessed by clicking on a date from the archive view get a URL in the form of a date rather than a link to the specific post, and when viewed in that format they acquire a convenient "previous day"/"next day" link at the top of the post!

I've had two new people subscribe to this blog in the last week (not quite sure how that happened!)

So I should probably mention that due to some kind of incompability between my browser and Dreamwidth's locking system, I can't read any post or blog marked as having 'adult' content AT ALL, and I can't see friends-locked posts even if the owner of the blog has nominally given me access. (I can't even seen my *own* friends-locked posts, which is why there are only about two of them on this entire account; once my content is posted, it's effectively invisible unless someone comments and I get an email notification.)

I'm not ignoring people. I simply don't get to see the 'private' content.

Dreamwidth has apparently banned my ISP/my IP address overnight. I can post and view my inbox (and various other features involving www.dreamwidth.org addresses) but not view any pages with individual user.dreamwidth.org addresses -- including my own journal, tags, reading page, etc.

This appears to be a not infrequent Dreamwidth issue rather than anything personal: c.f. https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/see_request?id=43174 , https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/see_request?id=43221 , https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/see_request?id=43153 ,https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/see_request?id=43020 etc.

However, I can't see any user responses to any of these support requests that would suggest the problem ever actually got fixed for any of them -- they are all (and there are quite a few of them beyond those I listed) still displayed as open, awaiting closure :(

I was astonished to learn today that a parcel I sent off by second class post at about 5pm yesterday had already arrived, having travelled a hundred miles in less than a day -- despite having split open in transit, been put into a plastic bag, and resealed. (I wonder if that could possibly have had any influence on the speedy arrival? Presumably it was pulled out of the general sack to avoid spilling its contents everywhere...)

Comment situation: I worked out that I can respond to comments on my own posts using Dreamwidth's 'respond to comment via email' feature Read more... ) I did find alternative software that will allow me to log in and comment, but it's slow and very unstable and requires me to quit other programs before running it (and isn't actively supported by the developer), so posting comments on Dreamwidth has now joined reviewing on fanfiction.net as a labour-intensive and occasional activity :-(

Quick heads-up: since the recent DW 'code push' I now seem to be unable to post or reply to any comments on Dreamwidth.

I discovered hierarchical tags by observing other people's journals :-)

Spent the afternoon laboriously loading and editing, one by one, every single one of my eighty-plus journal entries categorised under the 'fiction' tag, in order to recategorise them under, say, fiction: blakes-7, producing a neat little list like this:Read more... )

Well, I managed to create a Dreamwidth account, and even to import my LiveJournal posts to it.

But I seem to have more or less the same problem with this codebase that I had with LiveJournal; every time I navigate away from the account-configuring pages (i.e. every time I view any journal, even my own) the browser registers me as logged out. I can still comment on other users' pages by logging in locally on the comments page, but the log-in doesn't 'stick'. So I'm constantly a guest, can't view any private material, etc.

Grr.

[Edit]Oh, and I can't edit entries once I've posted them... except I can at least do so by logging in yet again to display my account settings and using Edit Entries from the sidebar...
