It's odd how often very-much-married couples do die within a short space of one another (I think we were all expecting the Queen to go on to over a hundred, as her mother did) -- but when people reach extreme old age, I don't think one can really draw any specific conclusions from that.
I decided to mark the Queen's passing (and apologies to anyone else who is shocked to learn of it here, as I did, via a casual aside on someone else's Internet blog) by finally completing the upload of my old MySpace blog entries, a task which had been hanging over me for years -- and which had, in fact, originally been undertaken as an import into my old LiveJournal blog, created in August 2010. I'm not quite sure why this labour struck me as an appropriate act (intimations of mortality, reinforcing the warning oferimia's recent blog disaster?), but somehow it did.
Well, I failed to complete it before the demise of that blog in turn, but the archive should now be complete. There weren't all that many entries outstanding; mercifully, when I broke off in July 2014 I took the care to record the filename of the last entry I'd imported, which enabled me to realise, some eight years later, that I had started off by working backwards from the end, then got bored and started again from the very earliest entries, leaving a hole of nine 'missing' entries in the middle. It didn't show up in the archive index, because those nine entries had all taken place in the space of two months during a year when I was posting on average one entry a month (apparently including nothing at all between June 2008 and February 2009), and a two-months' gap was quite unremarkable.
I also had the unexpected hammer-blow of encountering a love-letter I'd written (and presumably transferred as a post locked-down to myself only, which given my friends-list problems effectively hides it even from me forever) back in 2010, echoing many of the things that still go through my head on that subject another twelve years later.
