Blooms and buds

igenlodeThe sweetbriar and corn-camomile (overwintered, not this year's) are in bloom, as is the overwintered calendula... and the parsley and pak choi, unfortunately!
I think we *finally* have some Swan River daisy germination, although it's hard to be certain as I have been assiduously burying any sign of root appearing from out of seeds on the surface, and no shoots have as yet appeared. On the other hand we definitely do have three basil seedlings. Now that we know we have some, I have just tried sowing some of the saved seed from last year's basil, the flower stalks of which do seem to have dropped a few black seeds into the bottom of the envelope, and we shall see how and whether that comes out. I have also sowed some flax.
The feverfew, like the pink poppies, has germinated with embarrassing enthusiasm, and I have been pulling up seedlings by the handfuls and throwing them away in my attempts to thin it out! I planted up half a dozen or so of the best ones and will probably end up disposing of the rest. (Looking at the photos on the Web, it's actually disappointingly identical to camomile.)
I have flower buds on the largest of the red poppies, on the yellow poppy which has yet again successfully regrown from the rose pot despite failing everywhere else even when I try to transplant the root, and on the orange long-headed poppies. No flower stalks as yet on the Oriental poppies, but I have a couple of large specimens which have self-seeded in pots that were being fed for the benefit of other plants, and it's only a matter of time :)
No flowers from the evening primroses that I thinned out, but the surviving plants look very much happier than they were last year now that they are less crowded, and are starting to shoot upwards.
