Plant update
16 June 2024 03:34 pmThe first mesembryanthemum is finally in flower -- it is, unsurprisingly, pink. The poached-egg plants are *very* belatedly starting to burst their newly-formed flower buds, as are the marigolds and the self-sown corn-marigolds that I have allowed to mature, but none of them are actually in flower yet.
To my surprise the saved nasturtium and coriander seed *is* now coming up (it has, after all, only been two weeks, though it seems like much longer...) I have successful germination amongst the Gypsophila elegans, which now need thinning out, but am sceptical as to whether any of the things that have germinated in the other two compartments are anything but weeds -- I might just possibly have a stray pink Swan River daisy in the next-door compartment, but otherwise I think the seed utterly failed :-(
I may have been a little over-zealous in my weeding-out of the various self-sown calendula seedlings, as I can only actually see *one* straggly over-wintered plant, plus the one in the trough -- as versus the over-wintered rudbeckia and three further seedlings! (However, the saved rudbeckia seed also appears to have failed, so I do need to try to get some viable seed off this year's rudbeckias, or I shan't have any in the future.)
Out of the two honesty seedlings I potted up, one is flourishing and the other isn't really developing at all; not really an issue as I only want one adult plant (and rather suspect I have another late-germinated seedling in the seed compartment).
