Changeover

igenlodeAaand... it's time to complete the great changeover again. On exactly the same date as last year, interestingly -- although I've been cheating, because I emptied the small trunk a couple of weeks back, which provided me with some more jumpers and a certain amount of spare winter underwear.
I've been carrying armfuls of clothing up and down stairs; lots and lots of lovely longjohns to add to the single set of thermals I kept out over the summer (English summers being what they are), and the winter pyjamas and dressing-gowns I shall badly need. I'm afraid the summer pyjamas are so worn now that they probably won't do another full season, and I shall probably need to replace them almost as soon as they come out again. I'm a bit worried about what state the winter pyjamas are in, as they're certainly not thick and fluffy any more. I did get one spare pyjama jacket...
Now to get rid of the linen and light cotton trousers; the short-sleeved shirts, some of which I know for a fact were not worn at all this summer (the trouble is that I don't actually want to expose my arms to hot sunlight; I don't tan, I freckle and burn), already went up into the small trunk earlier.
The central heating hasn't come on yet, although the newfangled condensing boiler seems to run itself at random far more often than when I actually use hot water and hear it come on. Apparently this is the 'preheat' cycle designed to make sure the water in the heat exchanger is always hot... a bit like having to pay to maintain the temperature in an actual hot water tank, really :-p
