Alive, I tell you, alive!

The anemones that I planted on the second of October (and that were given to me as a present to bloom indoors within two months) have finally bent their heads and thrust up two little purplish shoots. Oddly enough this is at exactly the same time as the bulbs growing outside in the garden: it is clearly Springtime for Anemones!

This gives me the idea that their cycles are driven more by daylight than warmth.

I think they are responsive to light levels -- you can keep houseplants as warm as you like during the winter, but without adequate daylight it's hard to fool them into thinking it's summer indoors -- but since I normally keep my window open all year round the temperature on my windowsill has been pretty much the same as the temperature in the grass under the trees outside in any case :-)
