Another new buckle
17 April 2026 05:50 pmI noticed last night when taking in the washing that the new buckle on my secondary clothes line had cracked through in the same way that the original Bakelite buckle did, and after about the same amount of time; however this time I knew where to go to purchase a replacement! The current new buckle is green, but I don't think it's as thick in cross-section as the last one, so I don't know how long it will last. What I really need is a metal buckle, of course (though doubtless the weld holding the bar on would eventually fail; they are simply not designed for heavy loads). Possibly I should *get* a metal buckle and then make a strap to fit it, as opposed to trying to find buckles to fit the existing stout woven strap -- which has lasted remarkably well.
Current cycle mileage: 878 -- 271 miles since January (plus a few more that didn't get recorded due to bike issues). Spot on the usual average of 18-19 miles a week :-)

I currently seem to have two videos on Venjamin Smekhov queued plus two on Igor Starygin, having watched four on Valentin Smirnitsky... well, I currently have 42 videos queued ;-p
13 on Smekhov, 2 on Smirnitsky, 11 on Boyarsky, 1 on Starygin, "Dog in Boots" (the Soviet 'Muskehounds'), "Monsieur Lenoir" (featuring Smekhov), "3 Musketeers" audiobook (read in Russian by Smekhov), "Smok & Malish" (featuring Smekhov), a documentary about the Baron Munchausen film that I saw an amusing extract from, "Mid-life Crisis"(?), featuring Smekhov, the Russian TV version of "The Lord of the Rings" (rather bizarre ex-stage adaptation), documentary on "Mama" (featuring Boyarsky), Pushkin's "Mozart & Salieri", "The Hussar Ballad" (featuring Vladimir Balon), 2 parts of "Dog in the Manger" (featuring Boyarsky), "Tartuffe" (featuring Boyarsky), a 2013 whole-cast "Three Musketeers" reunion/documentary, and a random programme on "Dogs in Antarctica" which I'm realistically probably not going to finish watching :-(
But the figure of forty-two is entirely misleading, because a good many of those -- probably the majority -- are programmes that I have already watched in full or in part, but haven't yet *written about*, rather than genuine 'Watch Later' material; there are quite a few that are under ten minutes long -- at least one of which is apparently 'no longer available', being a Soviet educational film/parody about the dangers of wasting water, featuring Boyarsky & friend moving into a new flat and the friend trying to take a bath while Boyarsky (outside in the street :-p) drives badly... sadly that one seems to have expired without ever leaving the 'Watch Later' list!
