In an almost totally unexpected turn of events, I somehow or other managed to actually log in once again to fanfiction.net last night simply using my email and password, bypassing the incredibly frustrating 'verification test' ("Select all the squares containing 'crosswalks'") that I usually struggle with repeatedly even on the library computers. I'm not entirely sure why I even tried, but for once in four years it worked, and thanks to the miracle of 'cookies' I am for the moment logged-in to my account on this computer and able to see my stats (For the month of 2025-08, there have been a total of 260 Views and 100 Visitors to all of your stories), and even reply to PMs and post to forums. Goodness knows how long this is likely to last -- I can only assume it's a side-effect of the measures they have been taking to tackle the last year of spam messages and reviews.

These are finally under control with offending accounts being removed entirely, along with their associated reviews and PMs. Although it's certainly not a side-effect I would have expected, since I'd have imagined they would be putting in yet more hoops to jump through rather than removing the existing blockers!

Apparently there is a 'new site' in the offing (which on past precedent is likely to be even less navigable; I can just about work the current one by using the old-school method of manually editing the parameters being passed in the URL even though the JavaScript drop-downs don't function), so it could be they are switching some of the protection resources over to that. I'm not holding my breath for prolonged access, anyway!
