Mending and growing

igenlodeI had to unpick the hem on the tails of my blue shirt in order to cut out a strip in order to patch a hole next to the cuff placket :-(
Not particularly happy, as I've only worn this shirt relatively few times. (My pyjama jacket, which has already been patched at the shoulder twice, has now torn through *again* on the front of the sleeve -- I simply don't understand why it should wear out on the upper arm, of all places, where there is little to no chafing against the sheets, as opposed to the seat of the trousers wearing through. Something to do with reading propped up on my elbows?)
The California poppies and the chillies that fell off the windowsill have both definitely germinated as of this morning, which gives an idea of the time-lapse involved in both cases. (About two weeks for the chillies and seven days for the California poppies, though it feels like more, given how fast the other seeds planted at the same time responded!)
Far too late from the point of view of getting a crop out of the chillies, of course, though it will be interesting to see whether they manage to catch up with and overtake the Red Demon variety, which is still sitting there looking as if it has been poisoned by something in the soil :-( The plants have now achieved a weedy two pairs of true leaves each and are still only a couple of inches high; no noticeable difference in performance between the one that was left in the greenhouse and the other two, save that the former needs less watering (presumably existing in a more humid environment as a result?)
My first marigold has opened :-)
Still at the red and gold stage, but it will go orange as the flowers mature.
