Pot marigold success

The calendula (pot marigold) that I planted on 23^rd June is now in flower: two months from germination to bloom :-)



The other one has just developed a flower bud as well, but I really don't know if that will make it to maturity before the weather gets too cold...

The California poppies planted at the same time are vigorous but showing no signs of flowering. I really wasn't expecting it, so that's just a bonus.

I'm a little ungrateful because what with the French marigolds, corn-marigolds, and bright yellow chrysanthemums (that weren't supposed to be yellow) -- not to mention the famous yellow poppy! -- I've had an almost unrelieved spectrum of yellow/red/orange flowers this year ;-p
And yes, the California poppies will be yellow/orange too when they flower; about the only non-orange flowers I've got are the blue daisies (which, weirdly, appear to have thrown up a pink one in another pot -- maybe another bird-borne seed, like the original appearance of these flowers that I certainly didn't buy) and the cornflowers. I wonder if the fiery colours are actually some kind of indication of heat tolerance, and that all the plants that do well under these sorts of conditions tend to be this sort of colour?

Thanks! I hadn't realised that I was in slanting sunlight when I took the photo, so it has come out with yellow splotches on it where I think the sun was catching the petals from underneath -- but the petals are actually a surprisingly subtle '3D-shaded' orange colour, rather than the flat yellow of the chrysanthemums or the contrast red/gold of the French marigolds (although the latter do fade to a fairly uniform orange as they age -- see the photo I posted in my other comment! It's still a more sharp-edged quality.)
