Scruples?

More work on the Ashley-fic; I now have it typed up (2500 words) and I think I've fixed the problems I was having in switching from Honey's section to the end. (Honey was intended to be part of it from the start -- I remember thinking about this bit when scraping past stone walls on long bus-rides in the Isle of Wight -- but I was failing to get across Ashley's basic dilemma where her involvement is concerned.)

And I had the brainwave of transplanting two paragraphs wholesale from the end to the middle, so that my Ashley-viewpoint allusion to Scarlett's confession actually followed directly on from his earlier reference to it ("the humiliation of what she had done"). I was having so much trouble with that unanchored line that I'd actually decided to switch it to "what he had done", since in the context it was just looking like a typo. Now we get to see exactly what it was that she had done :-)

I think I've got a summary and a title: "Scruples of Honour". Or maybe just "Scruples"?

Yay for progress! It's always interesting how other people write :)

I like that title... the one word is fine but the full one fives me a bit more of a hint to go on.

I have a tendency to forget that other people are actually potentially reading my blog entries -- I tend to assume I'm talking to myself! (I was late to the LiveJournal party and even later to Dreamwidth, so I don't exactly have a large friends list...)
I've just realised that the reviewer I was talking about in my latest entry mentioned recently that she has been known to browse this blog on occasion -- oops. Just as well I didn't mention my guesses about problems the others might be having :-(

One thing I'm a bit worried about where this story/title are concerned is that I come across as 'bashing' Ashley, especially as it's standard practice on fanfiction.net; the fact that he feels culpable doesn't necessarily mean that he is culpable, but it's canon that he has a sensitive conscience and Scarlett has absolutely none -- I see him as the type to blame himself for her behaviour with a sense that he must somehow have subconsciously 'led her on' :-(

That makes sense, people with a conscience do tend at times to take too much blame on themselves when things happen.
