I woke up this morning to find that my hot-water-bottle had leaked -- I can't find any cracks in it, and it made squealing vacuum-noises through the top, so I think I probably just hadn't done the screw up quite right (thanks to spending the small hours trying to wrestle with AO3 tags†), and then compounded the problem by lying on it during the night. Although it is quite old now, and I have been wondering for some time just how long it will last.... I have not one but two replacements that I could use, but they were less expensive to start off with and may themselves perish quite soon :-p

Fortunately much of the leakage was absorbed by the shoulder of my heavy flannel pyjama jacket, and my woollen pillow doesn't seem to have got wet at all. The sheets are quite lightweight, and the blankets are not affected. The big issue is going to be whether I can get my mattress dry before tonight, or indeed any time soon; I can't even turn it over to sleep on the dry side, since it is a one-sided mattress that can only be turned end to end (although the latter would probably help). It is too large and heavy for me to manhandle through the doorway without help -- it is all I can do to turn it periodically in the limited space available -- so I can't move it into a warmer room, and eventually I have resorted to closing the bedroom window, opening the door, using the rather broken radiator valve to reconnect the radiator to the main circuit, and using the central heating override in an attempt to heat the room during the daytime all the way up to 20C from its normal 13C or so.

Currently I have managed to raise the temperature at the boiler end of the circuit from 15.5C up to 16C, and have assorted bedding spread out everywhere... *plus* the large wash of underwear that I had already set to run overnight, which I suppose will at the least benefit from the increased indoors temoerature! But the wet patch on the mattress is evidently quite big, since there is now a corresponding wet mark on the divan base where I had upended the mattress onto its side and the damp presumably drained down...

† Without any form of auto-complete, I have to do a manual tag search for every relevant element and character that I think *might* exist, e.g. 'boarding school', identify the canonical version out of several pages of potential matches, and then check to see how they are actually being used -- a fair few of the available tags that might sound applicable, like "Male Friendship" or "Schoolboys", appear to tie in to various kinds of fetish. Louise de la Vallière is apparently a manga character, and her tags default to that fandom (so I can't do 'mentions of' without linking to the wrong character), and it always takes me ages to find out what the relevant relationship and AU tags are anyway.

I should just ignore the whole AO3 tagging ethos, but I'm trying to fit in... (I did manage to successfully re-identify 'Crack Treated Seriously'!)
