Publishing
8 October 2025 10:39 pmAnother Big Name Content Creator (naming no names) has published a novel tying in to his channel content, and again, while I enjoy the source material, going by the preview the actual writing just isn't that good. I wouldn't get it out of the library based on a flick through the opening chapters, let alone pay for it:-(
I suspect it may have got better as it went along, or else I became more engaged in the actual story, but the beginning felt unmistakably in need of an editor in terms of purple prose and over-explaining (does the protagonist really need to think about the best way to mend his helmet just in order to prove that the author has done his period research?) It's a first novel, and it's been self-published by an amateur writer, and I'm afraid it shows.
And yet these books are selling just based on the author's existing following; it just goes to prove that publicity and name recognition is everything. If people know you and like you then they will buy your book, and probably like it.
(On the other hand the non-knitting lady came back, and actually appeared to have improved since last week; I had her knitting garter stitch on her own by the end of lunch...)
