Finished (rather belatedly) running my accounts for this financial year. Assuming an entirely spurious degree of accuracy, I can observe that my largest single expenditure (almost £3,000) was on utility bills, of which the largest was council tax (£1,162) and the next largest the electricity bill (a consequence of going with an expensive 'green' provider), although my water bill is going up by fifty percent as of next month...

I spent almost £700 on paying the greengrocer's bill versus £160 at the supermarket and £280 at various street markets.

Total annual expenditure on food: £1,150, of which £760 on fruit & veg, £110 on meat, £40 on dairy products and £230 on assorted groceries.

I spent a very much larger sum than normal (£1,150) on transport costs this year thanks to the slow demise of my old bicycle, which meant I paid for multiple repairs *and* then a new bike plus further parts for that -- and I paid for train tickets. Likewise I spent a great deal more on clothes than normal because I had to buy some new boots... and managed to clock up an average of £20 a month on 'Entertainment' thanks to paying subscriptions. The extremely large sum I had to pay on house maintenance will hit next year's accounts, having missed the cut-off date by literally one day :-p

The really big 'discretionary' item, as always, is £2,200 on music fees; an expensive hobby, but I do have the services of a really good accompanist and a really good conductor at the moment and just need to make sure I do enough practice to justify them... since it is the Easter holidays at the moment and I have no rehearsals I haven't actually done any for weeks, after the spate of concerts at the end of last term. And I'm supposed to be keeping some of that stuff in repertoire, and preparing new music over the holiday!

Total annual expenditure: £10,165.50, which is a lot less than last year because last year I had to have the windows replaced, and will be a lot less than next year because this month I have had the roof done again :-(
(And not all that very much different from what I paid in 2021...)
