A Hot Mistake

I thought I ought to pick my Demon Red chillies so that I can dry both varieties out at once. But the little fruits pointing straight up in the air don't seem to be very keen on coming off the plant, unlike the large dangling variety, despite the fact that they ought to be considerably riper. Instead of being able to pick them with one hand I ended up simply snapping one off its base.

I tried testing the broken end against my tongue to see how hot the fruit was in this variety; disappointingly, there wasn't much of a tingle. So I then bit off a small piece. ( Read more... )
