A Hot Mistake

I thought I ought to pick my Demon Red chillies so that I can dry both varieties out at once. But the little fruits pointing straight up in the air don't seem to be very keen on coming off the plant, unlike the large dangling variety, despite the fact that they ought to be considerably riper. Instead of being able to pick them with one hand I ended up simply snapping one off its base.
I tried testing the broken end against my tongue to see how hot the fruit was in this variety; disappointingly, there wasn't much of a tingle. So I then bit off a small piece. The flavour was disconcertingly 'soapy' and reminded me of the very mild round yellow peppers I tried, and ended up simply slicing raw into salad (I didn't like those much).
And then a few seconds later it started to get *very* hot indeed; literally tears-flowing-from-the-eyes hot, in terms of pain and burning sensation. Note to self: do not on any account attempt to eat these tiny peppers raw :-D
(a fruity, tangy flavor that is mixed with an immediate, sharp level of spice that builds in intensity and lingers on the palate: https://specialtyproduce.com/produce/Demon__Chile_Peppers_15806.php)
I soothed my mouth down with lemon sog cake, the only thing I happened to have to hand, and hastily stuck the remains of the Demon Red pepper I'd just bitten into in the fridge. However, as a result of this experience I still haven't harvested the rest of them :-p I think I shall probably need scissors to cut the stems.
