I've spent most of today in evacuating (and converting) my favourites list during my intervals of fanfiction.net access -- there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it; it just works from time to time, then cuts out between one page and another -- and trying to download some of the stories on the list. So far I have all the one-shots on the first page (of eight...) and am currently stuck between pages six and seven of
That We've Broken Their Statues -- annoying, because it's very enjoyable and I can't at all remember what happened next!
I daren't point wget at the index to do an automated download, as I normally would, for fear that this will trigger the security measures and slam the shutters down on the instant, so I have the prospect of accessing every single chapter of 159 stories manually and individually. Ironically this sort of text-scraping is presumably precisely what they are trying to prevent, but if they weren't blocking basic HTML access I wouldn't be doing it...
(The list claims that I have 175 favourites, but so far as I can tell I've included all eight pages, so I can only assume that 16 of the stories got deleted; I know that sparklyscorpion and AMarguerite deleted theirs, and presumably there were others.)
[Edit: I've deleted a couple more of the early ones after going through them -- the Harry Potter favourites always were a bit random, and the Christine/Erik story was only really in there out of obligation and wasn't all that high quality; I'm sure the author won't notice the loss of a single favourite on her first-ever fanfiction for a fandom she has left!]
I have no idea how many of the stories I'm likely to be permitted to get, even if I persevere; the site's behaviour has changed several times over the last 24 hours, presumably as they try to fix loopholes.
