Itchy fingers

Something bit me on both forefingers (in different places) yesterday.

I assumed it was just chilblains -- I'm pretty sure the painful place on the ball of my thumb is, because it has the telltale sunken centre -- but they're now obviously swollen lumps from an insect bite, so I cannot imagine how it happened. Surely not midges at this time of year.

Fleas?

We may have been visited by the same mystery insect. I've received a couple bites even though it's not supposed to be warm enough here for mosquitoes yet.
