The furry hedgehog wildife garden is clearly a complete failure; I don't really want to simply empty the compost back into the communal bags, since it is full of 'fairy grass' seed that may germinate in years to come, so I used the base tray to plant some more rocket. (Of course it has no drainage holes, so would be better used as a plant-saucer under one of the larger pots... however, this way the grass-seed has a chance to rot down further in a visible position.)

In the three little pots of candy-tuft, all of which are of the 'toy' size that is really too small to grow anything seriously, I sowed saved seed from love-in-a-mist, poached-egg plant, and the mutant pak choi from 2023 -- the latter mainly in order to get rid of the envelope! But it is some kind of brassica at any rate, and the seedlings can presumably be eaten.

I would have sown corn-marigold seed, but I don't appear to have any saved, although I did find cornflower and corn-chamomile. I suspect I didn't bother harvesting it on the assumption that the seed had become so endemic in the soil that I would never be short of random seedlings popping up, as with the field poppies. I do have one decent-sized corn-marigold seedling that I potted up (along with an opium poppy and a couple of straggling field poppies, when pricking out one of the other things I planted, and have removed (and potted up) a couple more tiny ones from a corner of the California poppy tray, where I tried sowing a scattering of more poppy seed. However, I suspect that won't produce any result, as the parent plants seem to suppress any competition.

The corn-marigolds are worth keeping around, since they are basically wild chrysanthemums that produce the same result but are much easier to look after :-p

I potted up a dozen or so basil seedlings into a couple of tubs, but there are still rather a lot left...
