I did eventually read, or at least skim through, the original novel of "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder", apparently now part of a series (of which I shan't be reading the rest). On the whole I think the TV adaptation was actually an improvement; the pairing-off *is* less toe-curling in the book, but that's largely because it's taken more or less for granted by everyone and no emphasis is placed on it when it's casually mentioned at the end. Oh, and the final twist is milked a bit less dramatically, although it's still the same character trying to bump Pip off for the same reasons.
