Microwave 2
6 December 2021 12:49 amWell, the venison pie was very tasty (even if I did end up eating it at about 11:30pm); I didn't have any kidney, but it worked well with a portion of venison, a quarter of a tin of chopped tinned pork, a hard-boiled egg, and the magic ingredient for this recipe -- some slices of black pudding. It's always a very extravagant recipe to make as it requires at least three different meats on hand (slightly less extravagant with venison instead of beef!), but it gives reliably good results. The last time I made it was after being served a very anaemic meat pie at a pub lunch. I could and did do better :-p
And there is definitely something very wrong with the microwave. When I first tried it this morning the timer dial didn't rotate (as I discovered after about twenty minutes of supposed defrosting!) and although it was making noises and lighting up inside there didn't seem to be any heat getting generated at all. Now, after some experimentation with different wattage settings, it appears to have got stuck on maximum 800W (which I only ever use for one single recipe), and the timer is still not working at all. Which means it can be used at a pinch for reheating things, although only things that you want to blast very hard and stir frequently...
Unfortunately I strongly suspect that it is no longer possible to get microwave ovens repaired, on the grounds that consumer repair costs more than replacement, or to buy one with as few bells and whistles as this (I deliberately selected it in the first place because it has no digital display, no electronic settings and only two mechanical controls). And since I have no means of disposing of any dead electrical appliances [edit: looks as if I'd have to pay an additional £32 to get the Council to take it away] that makes matters even worse.
