igenlode: The pirate sloop 'Horizon' from "Treasures of the Indies" (Default)
My rather wilted chilli plants still had a few hopeful flowers on them, but I decided the fruits weren't likely to ripen any further and harvested the lot -- ridiculously belated, in mid-November! (5th November last year.)

From two plants I got a grand total of four definitely ripe chillies for seed where the stem had dried up, fifteen red chillies (click on thumbnail image, which has cut off the right-hand side!), and an as yet uncounted assortment of partially ripe yellow-/orange and green/yellow chillies.[Edit: 37 yellow and 78 green, but that's counting the really tiny ones!] A lot of the green ones were only tiny, which I suppose is unsurprising but does indicate that of the fruits that reached full size --about an inch long!-- most of them had at least started to ripen.

To be fair this is probably a year's supply of chillies, or more at my normal rate of consumption; I still seem to have sixty-nine dried red chillies left out of my bumper havest of 2022 from three plants, although that is partly because I have preferentially been using the green ones (and still have most of the 'catch-up' dried chillies left, of which I have only been using a little here and a little there). And this is despite the fact that in the last few weeks I have been eating pumpkin & lentil curry, leek & kidney bean chilli, potato and Brussels sprout curry, spiced pumpkin soup, potato, celeriac and chickpea curry, etc -- the trouble is that a single inch-long chilli is adequate for three or four helpings/meals :-p
