Extravagant comfort food: rakott kaposzta. Two lots of onions and butter, a whole pot of sour cream, a jar of sauerkraut, the last of my paprika, half a pound of minced pork, tomato puree and the end of an elderly dried sausage (Polish would have been better, but chorizo was what I had), and the last remnant of my brown rice; I had to buy the sauerkraut, pork, dill and sour cream specially for the purpose, so it was not cheap. I was hoping to squeeze a solyanka out of the ingredients as well (I also have the remnants of a jar of pickled cucumbers that needs using up), but it looks as if I'd need to do some more shopping for that.

I do have half a jar of sauerkraut and half a pound of minced fat pork for future use...

I used to have to do that on a daily basis, but not without being in regular training and practising for several weeks first before I made it non-stop!

But the elderflowers still weren't open yet. Read more... )
