With the aid of two episodes of "The Addams Family" I managed to insert a four-inch patch and darn under the two splits in the left shoulder; annoyingly, I discovered a third small split just outside the area of the patch after I'd already darned it on, so I just put an ordinary darn on that (which will form a future weak point).

Then I put a very rough and ready patch underneath the burst button without bothering to finish the edges in any way, just so that I had something firm onto which I could replace the button. It was nearly 2am by that point, and I really wanted to wear the pyjamas!
