I started "War and Peace" but never finished it; about the only book I can say that of, with the exception of Harriette Wilson's Memoirs (with which she famously tried to blackmail the Duke of Wellington). I've started those twice, but never managed to get as far as Wellington's appearance. Not sure why, given that the memories of a notorious grande horizontale ought to be fairly racy stuff: possibly scandal is more engrossing when you're more familiar with the people involved.
