In Leroux canon, of course, he sends Christine away and dies of a
broken heart -- but it's more in accordance with space opera tradition
for him to sacrifice himself to allow our heroes to escape. (Although
he does have an additional motive, as we shall see later.)
All that 'Go now and leave me' stuff isn't actually terribly Leroux :-(
But having written it, I was reluctant to lose it...
There are several more scenes before the end, spread over a couple of
chapters. After all, Blake and his crew have still got their original
problems, and Rall and Cris have acquired completely new ones.
