"Sunflower" was the last episode of the season before this, and very heavy on the underhanded and morally ambiguous (tying in, the way the series does, to a particularly dubious aspect of the war's aftermath). It ends with Foyle and Sam facing an uncertain future after taking a principled stand that at least one of Foyle's bosses would have preferred him not to take. It was an appropriate way to end the episode, but I'm glad it's not where they chose to leave the characters.
