I'm currently embarking upon the sequel, in which Glokta is sent off by his superiors to engage in the thankless task of trying to save a besieged enclave city in the South (think Ceuta, the Spanish Gibraltar) with no money or resources, while the weirdly incompetent apprentice from Book 1 seems to be demonstrating an uncomfortable degree of knowledge and interest about the breaking of the First Law... I did think that it was odd that someone as old and powerful as Bayaz would take on someone so apparently useless *eek*
