Tag wrangling

I suspect I'm probably the only person who, when deciding that a new blog tag is needed, goes back through hundreds of past entries (I'm currently on ?skip=380) in order to locate all the places where it ought retrospectively to have applied :-p

It never did make much sense that I had a tag for cold but not one for heat -- it was just a matter of historical accident, dating back I think to importing my old blog from MySpace. Which I never did finish doing...

[Edit: I managed to navigate all the way to ?skip=770 (2016) using the "Previous 20" links, but beyond that the site only lets you view one post at a time and go to 'Previous Day', and since this is even slower than skimming the summary versions at 20 per page I've given up on re-tagging at around August 2015.]

It's a bit annoying that Dreamwidth won't let you browse back beyond a certain number of posts -- if I really cared, I could always use the 'Archive' links, but from memory I didn't suffer nearly so much from heat as from cold in the old days, which is why there wasn't a tag for it. (I know that in past re-tagging sprints I managed to get all the way back to 2012, so I'm paying the penalty for having become apparently more prolix as of recent years.)

I wasn't entirely surprised by hitting the limit, as I have a memory of reading in the Support Area something similar about a hardwired limit on the number of posts that can be linked to using tags -- about 500, I think. Beyond that, any earlier pages using the tag simply won't be displayed when you click on it :-(
I assume this is a hardware/resources limitation designed to simplify the task of coding the back end of the site, but it would be nice if these limits were actually a matter of public record, e.g. under 'What are tags?'

In fact I have now read most of that material starting from the other end (and yes, one post at a time...) as part of finishing the MySpace import and adding the film tags to those 'old' MySpace posts referred to. And there weren't any more references to excess heat.

Surely climate change can't have struck so quickly as to have changed the summer experience over only the last ten years?
