On the 'people who like my fiction will probably like other fiction that might appeal to me' front, you might be able to get something out of AO3's bookmarks function -- if you click on the number of bookmarks in a work's metadata, you'll be able to see who bookmarked it and any comments they might have made about why, and then you can click through to their user page to see what other bookmarks they have.
