Thanks -- I did feel that it rather beggars belief that the opera would have been staged with Don Juan's face muffled in cloth throughout the entire seduction duet (of course, in the context of the plot it's essential so that the Phantom can substitute himself for the leading man), and one of the prompts for this fic was the image of Aminta unmasking the Don and looking surprised. Well, of course she's supposed to act surprised: up until that point she believes him to be the servant Passarino making free with his master's possessions.
There was probably intended to be an unmasking at the end of that scene in the opera all along, just... not quite like the one that transpired! So it makes for a neat bit of misdirection in the context of an AU where Don Juan really is played by Piangi all along, thenks to the Phantom's little... mishap ;-p
I was having a certain amount of fun at Piangi's expense, and a good deal of fun turning the tables on the Phantom. Christine, on the other hand, is written absolutely straight (with a little cameo for Raoul, just for the sake of it ;-)
